On November 9, 1620, William Bradford and passengers aboard the Mayflower sighted land—the highlands of Cape Cod, the Nauset-Eastham area—and headed south toward their intended destination of the Hudson Valley (then part of the Virginia colony). However, about 9 miles south of Monomoy Island, the vessel came upon treacherous waters and dangerous shoals. In an effort to find safe harbor, the Mayflower turned around and sought shelter in Provincetown before continuing on to Plymouth and establishing the first Massachusetts colony.
In commemoration of the history-altering decision by William Bradford and others aboard the Mayflower to avoid the Pollock Rip shoals and make Chatham, MA the "turning point" of American history, Chatham Jewelers and the Chatham Historical Society have designed this collectible 0.999 Fine Silver medallion. The coin depicts the Mayflower vessel and honors the 400th anniversary of that 1620 voyage that changed history. Available as a commemorative coin or wearable pendant.
- Made from 1 Troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver
- Medallion is 39mm in diameter
